Sculptra
Sculptra is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment used to address facial wrinkles and volume loss due to aging, weight loss, or other skin conditions. The procedure uses an injectable solution to stimulate new collagen growth in the targeted areas, providing a natural way to achieve a more youthful skin appearance. Collagen is a natural protein found in the body that breaks down as the body ages, removing volume from the skin’s inner structure as Collagen degrades. By stimulating new growth, the collagen refills these areas, providing volume and tightening skin for a rejuvenated appearance.
How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra is a subdermal injectable that is different from other fillers, such as Hyaluronic Acid fillers, as it is injected into the deeper layers of the skin. When injected, the poly-L-lactic acid solution, or PLLA, stimulates a process called collagenesis, prompting your body to produce new collagen in the targeted areas, naturally adding volume and improving skin elasticity over time.
With Sculptra, the results of the procedure are not immediately visible and often take several appointments to achieve the desired results. For the best results, RevIV recommends a minimum of 3 Sculptra injection appointments designed to promote gradual collagen regeneration for a long-lasting outcome.
Benefits of Sculptra
Sculptra provides patients with a number of skin rejuvenation benefits similar to those of other injectable fillers. When the recommended procedures have been completed, patients will benefit from a reduction in wrinkles and deep folds as well as an improved skin glow, tightness, and a more defined jawline contour.
How Long Does Sculptra Last?
To achieve the best results, Sculptra requires multiple procedures that take place over the course of a 3 or 4 month schedule, based on the patient’s availability. Results are not immediately noticeable as cell reproduction ramps up over time and with multiple procedures; however, many patients begin to see skin rejuvenation results within one month. After the recommended number of procedures, Sculptra continues to promote cell growth, providing a rejuvenated skin appearance for up to 2 years.
There are many external factors that can affect the efficacy of Sculptra and other skin procedures, including weight loss or gain, sun exposure, and underlying skin conditions. RevIV Health & Wellness always recommends a balanced diet combined with exercise and sun protection to protect skin and help maintain a youthful appearance.
How is the Sculptra performed?
Like all of the procedures performed at RevIV Health & Wellness, we begin with a consultation to determine if skin rejuvenation, and Sculptra in particular, is the right procedure for you. Here we discuss your goals, expectations, and medical history, and educate you on our procedures and their areas of treatment. After a skin and facial assessment, our medical team compiles an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve your desired results and outlines any instructions required to prepare for your appointments.
As Sculptra is a minimally invasive procedure, most appointments can be completed within 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas to be addressed. The appointment will begin with cleansing and numbing of the areas to be treated to reduce discomfort during the procedure. A technician will then administer the solution under the skin, providing a slow release to ensure proper placement and minimal discomfort. Following the injection, each site is massaged to evenly distribute the PLLA solution to prevent the formation of lumps or nodules.
After the Sculptra procedure, it is recommended that patients continue to massage the treatment areas on a daily basis in intervals that will be defined in their aftercare plan. Some patients may experience minimal pain or discomfort in the areas treated which can be remedied with the application of a cloth-wrapped cold pack, applied in short intervals.
What conditions does Sculptra treat?
- Deep Wrinkles & Folds – Sculptra is often used to treat wrinkles around the chin, jaw line, and mouth where collagen volume has diminished over time.
- Volume Loss – With multiple injections, Sculptra helps to naturally fill areas that have experienced volume loss due to aging or weight loss.
- Skin Texture & Tone – Sculptra is used to improve skin elasticity, even out skin texture and tone, and provide a more youthful and vibrant skin appearance.
Sculptra Safety
Sculptra is an FDA-approved collagen stimulator that is highly effective when administered by a qualified healthcare professional. All of the medical practitioners and technicians at RevIV Health & Wellness receive extensive training in the administration and safety of all of our facial filler procedures. Your initial consultation for Sculptra will identify if the procedure is right for you and your lifestyle, identifying any health or skin conditions that may prevent you from achieving the results you desire.
During and after the Sculptra procedure, some pain or discomfort may occur, followed by mild side effects of redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness around the injection site. Sculptra is a procedure that is well tolerated by most patients, and side effects are generally minimal and not long-lasting.
Is Sculptra A Filler?
While Sculptra does meet the classification criteria of a filler, it works in a drastically different way than other HA-based fillers. Sculptra is an injectable that works to fill lost volume over time, but completes this process using the body’s natural cell regeneration instead of using gel-based fillers that attract and hold water.
